We launched the LG washing machine, it got water, started to rotate the drum and stopped, and the LE error code appeared on the display. Moreover, the drum does not spin at all: “Rinse, Wash, Spin”. What is the reason? Let's try to figure out what is still causing the LE error and how to fix the breakdown yourself, if possible.
Decoding the error
The LE error tells us that, for some reason, a motor lock has occurred. Usually this error notifies that there are some malfunctions in the power supply network (external or internal), due to which the motor is blocked.
Do not confuse the LE and 1E errors, they have completely different meanings.

In what cases can you eliminate yourself
- The door is not closed properly. An unlocked door does not close the circuit, which informs the equipment about the impossibility of starting the program. Try to reopen and press the hatch firmly until it clicks;
- The UBL contacts were sent away. To check the health of this element, you must remove the top cover from the washing machine, check the wires and contacts. If they just came off, then you can reconnect it yourself. However, if the wire is broken or frayed, it is better to contact the master;
- Failure in the control unit. Sometimes it happens due to power surges or other reasons, which indicates the probable overload of equipment. For debugging, disconnect the washing machine from the power supply for about a quarter of an hour. During this time, the electronic controller must resume its functions;
- Overloading the machine. Most often arises on the use of the “Silk”, “Wool”, “Hand wash” modes. The LE error appears during the spinning period, when the appliance is unable to cope with the weight of the laundry, which is more than the permissible norm. You can resume work by stopping the program, extracting part of the laundry into a separate container, and restarting it with the spin operation. The remaining things should be placed for the same operation in the second run;
- The drum is blocked by foreign objects. During the washing process, a button, a bone from a bra, other small solid part may come off from things, keys, a keychain and similar small objects that are not removed in advance from the pockets may fall out. They can get between the drum and the case close to it and mechanically block the drum. Turn off the machine and try spinning the drum in different directions with your hand. If the drum does not rotate, then it is necessary to disassemble the tank and remove the blocking object.
- Unstable mains voltage. For the correct operation of the equipment, a stable voltage is required, therefore, when it is briefly lowered, the machine may respond with a LE error. A voltage regulator will help to fix the problem.
Important:
If a PF error accompanies an LE fault, there is a power outage. Even when eliminating errors by rebooting the machine, it is better to take care of purchasing a stabilizer.
Faults requiring repair
There are some types of breakdowns that will be technically difficult to eliminate with the help of ingenuity and improvised means, and it is better to entrust this work to a master. The table shows the malfunctions that could cause the LE error to appear on the display of the LG washing machine.
Breaking | Signs | The reasons | What to do |
Mechanical damage to the handle or lock |
It is impossible to close the appliance door; an unusual wobbly movement of the hatch handle is felt in the hand. Plastic or metal parts are broken off. | The presence of mechanical damage in the lock or handle, the contact in the UBL circuit is broken.
|
Replace damaged parts of the lock system, pen or wires of the control unit. |
Damaged UBL wiring |
The door does not lockdespite no visible damage. | In the wiring, contact breakage most likely occurred by grinding the wires, disconnecting the contacts in the UBL unit. | Carry out a check with the multitester of the wires going to the UBL device. If the wires are worn out, a loop replacement is required. |
UBL broke |
The hatch closes but is not blocked. | UBL broke. | Replace the UBL with a serviceable one. |
Defective tachogenerator (speed sensor)
|
There is no drum rotation, which is accompanied by a strong hum of equipment. | The tachogenerator that controls the engine speed in the washing machine is out of order. Most likely one of the Hall sensors in it has broken. | Check the tachogenerator, its resistors and Hall sensors. Replace broken parts. |
Burned out motor winding
|
The washing machine does not start at all, the drum does not spin. | One of its windings burned out in the engine. | Depending on the nature of the malfunction, a complete replacement of the motor or only the stator may be necessary if only one winding is damaged. |
Control unit defective
|
The washing process stops at any stage, regardless of the type of the current program. | There is a defect in the electronic controller (control module).
|
Eject control module and check the degree of its malfunction. If possible, this part is repaired if the resistors are burned out, other individual elements, contacts and tracks require soldering.
In case of severe melting or breakdown of the processor, a complete replacement of the block is required. |
Conclusion
The LE error is specific to LG direct drive washing machines. Most often, it appears on the display at the same time as the execution of the program hangs. At the same time, when the washing machine is turned off, the drum spins freely by hand. But when working, rumbling sounds are made, strong vibration is felt, the drum is not working at full speed, or it stops moving completely. If you doubt your skills, it is better to entrust the work to the master, so as not to aggravate the problem.
