Any household appliances that are actively used are prone to breakdowns. We sometimes don’t think about what kind of load an ordinary lock of a washing machine is experiencing. There is high pressure on it, and with frequent use, you have to constantly click. It is not surprising that at a certain moment the door of the washing machine simply stops closing, and this despite the fact that the unit itself continues to work properly.
The reasons for the breakdown of the lock of the washing machine
Most often, you have to face the fact that when you try to close the door, it simply does not lock in the desired position. Usually we hear a characteristic click, which simply cannot be overlooked. If this does not happen, then the UBL will not work and the washing machine will not start.
There are several reasons that can lead to a malfunction of the washing machine door:
- door skew over time;
- mixing the locking tab in the locking mechanism;
- wear of the plastic component or rubber seal.
As a rule, there are no special difficulties with diagnostics. If the door does not close in its normal state without laundry, then, most likely, the latching mechanism itself (UBL) is damaged or a skew has appeared.
Sometimes washing machines are not installed completely straight, so the glass sunroof can be distorted under the influence of gravity and shaking. The lock of the washing machine can be damaged in the same way.
Washing machines with a display will report problems with locking the sunroof with an error code. For example, on Samsung typewriters (dE, Ed, or Door), LG (DE), Electrolux (E40), Ariston (F17 or Door).

The door does not lock in the washing machine - what should I do?
In this case, it is enough to carry out a visual inspection of the washing machine and the locking mechanism on the door. There are several aspects to pay attention to:
- are there things that interfere with the closure (sometimes things or parts of them fall under the hatch);
- in what state the locking hook is and whether it falls into the corresponding hole;
- Is the retaining tab normal?
- if there are any loose rubber or plastic.
Most often you have to deal with the fact that the hatch warps a little over time, so you need to check it right away. It is enough to touch it and find out if it is holding tight and not dangling. If the guide is badly worn, then the hook simply ceases to be firmly fixed in the groove.
In some cases, a metal rod falls out, holding the locking tab in position, so the door simply does not lock.To find out, you just need to touch it with your hands and check its strength.
The door of the washing machine does not close or lock
If the hatch of the washing machine does not close, then more often than not, something simply interferes with it. If blocking does not occur, then this indicates damage to the mechanism. The problem is that the machine will not start washing, because it simply will not understand that it is closed.
To eliminate problems with the UBL (sunroof lock device), it needs to be replaced, since it is an electronic device through which an electric current passes. This is how the reliability of the connection is checked and the protection against sudden opening is carried out.
Other faults can be eliminated in the following way:
- adjust the position of the glass sunroof using special mounting bolts to get rid of possible distortions;
- remove and disassemble the door to adjust the metal pin of the locking tab;
- replace the door handleif the hook breaks;
- clean or replace the UBL if the washing machine does not start a wash program.
Before doing any major repairs, it is worth checking the general condition. If there is no visual damage to the lock, handle or the door itself, then you can proceed to another stage. Typically, the cause is damage control module or UBL, so it's worth ringing the contacts. Only after that you can start parsing with the help of special tools.
