Each house has a washing machine that serves as a woman's assistant when washing clothes. This device is quite complex and can sometimes fail for various reasons. If this happens, then you do not need to immediately run after a new one or call a master, because often you can fix the breakdown at home. There may be several problems due to which the machine has stopped functioning normally, so before you do anything, you need to determine their source. We'll take a look at why the washing machine draws water but doesn't wash.
Reasons for malfunction
Sometimes it happens that the washer draws water, but does not fulfill its intended purpose. If this happens, then don't panic right away. Often, a malfunction can be solved without contacting a service center. Let's consider the reasons for such a malfunction:
- The drive belt may fly off.
- Motor malfunction.
- The heater burned out, therefore, the water does not heat up and the wash does not start.
- A breakdown has occurred in the control board. This happens quite rarely, but this possibility cannot be ruled out.

Drum lock
First you need to check the drum - it can be mechanically blocked. Foreign objects caught between the drum and the tub are interfering with normal rotation. If you remove this "obstacle", then the work will resume.
The heating element is broken
When water is put into the washer, the heater begins to work - thus, the water is heated. When the water is heated to the required temperature, the sensor that drives the engine is triggered. If the water is not heated, the sensor will not start working. In this case, an error should appear on the screen, indicating problems with the heating element. To check the heater, open the back cover of the washing machine. Sometimes this element can be located in the front, in this case it is necessary to open the front panel.
The heating element is mainly installed in the lower section of the tank, to which various wires are connected, they must be disconnected. To remove the heating element, unscrew the central nut. The sticking out bolt needs to be thrust inside. After that, using a flat screwdriver, it is necessary to pry the heating element body and pull it out of the tank with the help of loosening.
Initially, you will need to clean the heater from the accumulated scale. If during the inspection of the heating element there were dark spots on it, then there is a high probability that a breakdown takes place. In this case, the heater must be replaced with a new one. If there are no spots, then it can be checked with a tester. For this purpose, you need to switch the device for measuring resistance. If the heater is OK, then the resistance will be 20–40 Ohms, and sometimes 60 Ohms. If the resistance is less than 20 ohms, this indicates a heater malfunction.
Belt problems
Belt problems are common with belt washing machines. Therefore, if you have such an assistant, then it is better to start looking for a breakdown with this element, because this reason is one of the first reasons why the washer constantly draws water and does not start washing.
It is quite easy to remove the wall, for this it is necessary to remove all the screws with which it is held.
The belt that fell off must be carefully examined. If scuffs or minor cracks were noticed on it, then it is likely that they were the reason that it flew off. In this case, a replacement is required. You can put the belt back on as follows: put it on the motor pulley and rotate it counterclockwise until it is completely in place.
After replacing a faulty belt, you must turn on the test wash mode to make sure that you are doing it right and, as a result, that the machine is working correctly.
The control module is out of order
Another cause of breakdown may be in the control module. Using the electronic board, the washing steps are switched, but this does not happen due to breakdown. But this is quite rare. Note that if an electronic board is out of order, then only a professional can help solve this problem, because the master will be able to say whether it can be repaired or will have to be replaced with a new one.
Defective motor
Another reason for problems with washing can be a breakdown of the electric motor. Main faults:
- The brushes in the electric motor are worn out.
- The starting capacitor located in the asynchronous motor is out of order.
Experts note that the engine may not turn on due to long washings, for example, a number of loads lasting more than 1.5 hours occurred.
To change brushes, you must:
- Unscrew bolts and remove engine.
- Disconnect the sensors and belt.
- Fold the terminal away from the brush with a screwdriver.
- Unscrew the bolts and remove the carbon electrode or do it by depressing the spring. If the removed electrode is shorter than one and a half centimeters, then it must be replaced.
- When removing the brush, it is necessary to notice in which direction the ends of the coal are grinded, because if you put them backwards, then the motor can sparkle.
It is very important: it is necessary to replace two brushes at once, it is not recommended to replace one at a time.
Next, it is necessary to clean the collector from scratches and coal dust: you need to use fine sandpaper, which you need to attach to the collector and roll the shaft. Rotations must be continued until the collector is clean.
After these manipulations, it is necessary to install the engine in place, connect all the elements and test the unit.
In the article, we examined the possible reasons why the washing machine is picking up water, but washing is not carried out. Now you know how to deal with these problems yourself.
